NECA Comments on Proposed DOL Apprenticeship Guidelines

The National Electrical Contractors Assn. (NECA) recently submitted comments to the U.S. Dept. of Labor on proposed changes to U.S. apprenticeship programs. NECA is the leading sponsor of electrician apprenticeship programs nationwide, with more than 40,000 apprentices enrolled in nearly 300 local training programs.

 

NJATC Welcomes Industry Expert

The National Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee (NJATC) welcomes 40-year electrical industry veteran Joseph V. Sheehan, P.E. as a Curriculum Specialist. Sheehan, who previously worked as the principal electrical engineer at the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), brings critical knowledge to an organization known for creating the best training materials in the electrical industry.

 

Klein Tools Quarter Million Pledge Gets JATCs “Rolling”

What is red and yellow, has 12 wheels, and makes training more effective? The answer, three rolling tool cabinets from Klein Tools, may surprise you. Over the past few months, around the country tool cabinets from Klein Tools and other trade related tools have been rolling into the doorways of Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committees’ (JATCs) high-tech training facilities, and landing in the hands of IBEW/NECA apprentices.

Massive Need for New Electrical Workers Predicted for U.S.

March 7, 2008

America will need to train more than 270,000 new electrical and power line workers by 2016, according to statistics recently released by the U.S. Department of Labor. Predictions are that, between 2006 and 2016, an annual average of 27,000 new electricians will be necessary to accommodate growth in the industry and to replace those leaving the workforce – with a total turnover rate of nearly 27% of the workforce.

NJATC Apprentices Earn & Learn

The National Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee (NJATC), the training arm of NECA and the IBEW, uses an “Earn While You Learn” system that helps apprentices to get paid and trained at the same time.

NJATC Outside Apprenticeship Hits Record Height

The National Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee’s (NJATC) number of indentured Outside apprentices has nearly doubled since 2002. According to the NJATC’s 2007 Annual Outside Survey, distributed to all AJATC programs in the United States, a record 1,636 apprentices were indentured into an IBEW/NECA Outside Apprenticeship last year.

ElectricTV.net, the exciting new website that shows online viewers how NECA contractors work with IBEW electricians to consistently surpass owners’ and end-users expectations, has only been online for about five months, but it has already earned prestigious honors in the visual arts and communications field. NJATC 18th Annual National Training Institute Focuses on Future of Electrical Industry

Courses during the week-long NTI focus on advancing the knowledge of the instructional staff that trains both apprentice and journey-level electrical workers at the various NJATC centers. Currently, the NJATC has more than 41,000 apprentices in the United States and Canada who are preparing to become journey-level workers.
